Review: Menopause - The Musical

Menopause The Musical is on a current tour of the UK and we had the pleasure of watching the show in The Playhouse, Weston-super-Mare.
Set in a department store, four women of a certain age meet at the lingerie sale bin. It doesn’t take long for these four very different women to realise that they all have one major thing in common – ‘the change’.
Adaptations of a host of songs from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s are hilarious and you find yourself not only laughing out loud but nodding in agreement when they sing about hot flushes, night sweats, memory loss, food bingeing, sex and plastic surgery.
The four actresses were all amazing, the vocals were great, and we particularly loved the performances of, and characters played, by Cheryl Fergison and Rebecca Wheatley.
But, whilst it was heavily panned by critics in the noughties, receiving some of the worst reviews ever, we can firmly say that we Sassistas loved it (and, judging from the laughter in the auditorium, so did the rest of the audience). Perhaps you have to be a certain sex and certain age ……
