The Game you Played by Anni Taylor

Book review

When her two year old son Tommy disappears from a Sydney playground, Phoebe Basko’s life starts spiralling out of control, relying heavily on drink and sleeping tablets to get through each day. Then, six months later, Phoebe starts receiving cryptic notes – clues, all in rhyme and based on the Little Boy Blue nursery rhyme.

Phoebe is convinced these clues are a game meant for her, and determined to find out the truth, she joins in the game. However, when the identity of the writer is discovered, her sanity is questioned, what’s left of her marriage falls apart and Phoebe knows that she must find out once and for all what happened to Tommy.

This book had me hooked from the start. Anni Taylor has a lovely style of writing that is easy to follow and she creates believable characters and paints pictures of the area in Sydney so well that you believe you are there. The plot is superb and keeps you riveted with plenty of twists and turns along the way. I loved that some mysteries were solved and questions answered as you progress through the book – but with all these answers more questions are created. I was certainly guessing until the end. A superb psychological thriller that you won’t be able to put down!
