Top Five Autumn Wines

A change of a season always seems to evoke a change of drinking habits, from fresh whites and rosés, not forgetting a cheeky glass of Prosecco, to warm reds and richer white wines.

Kelli Coxhead from The Wine Tasting Company has chosen 5 wines that she feels are perfect for this time of year. The Sassistas have tasted and we agree!

Finca Clasica Viognier

There is lots of warmth and richness with this white wine, which offers the flavours of rounded stone fruit, melon and peaches with a lovely fresh finish.

Sartarelli Classico Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi

This white wine has lovely herb and savoury notes with a bitter lemon note and a touch of spice. With hints of delicate white flower, this gives a lovely rich mouth feel and fresh acidity.

Ciconia Tinto Portugal

From the region of Alentejo, this is a stunning red wine and is great value. A blend of traditional grapes as well as syrah, soft rich black fruit with dried fruit notes, spice and a smooth finish.

Bon Courage Cabernet Sauvignon, South Africa

Rich blackcurrant, fresh strawberries and bramble fruits. With a touch of vanilla and spice and a lovely nuttiness to the finish. The perfect red for roasts and stews.

Musar Jeune Red, Lebanon

The young wine from the famous Chateau Musar. A blend of cinsault, syrah and cabernet sauvignon. Soft tannins with blackberry, mulberry and juicy fresh acidity.

And if rosé wine is your favourite, keep a Sassy eye out here for Kelli’s forthcoming article on her favourite top five rosé wines for the autumn.
